Shri Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi, IFS (Retd.), served over 37 years in the Indian Forest Service (1986 batch, Gujarat cadre) and retired in December 2023 as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Gujarat. A postgraduate in Forestry and Organic Chemistry, he contributed significantly to forestry administration, eco-restoration, environmental management, and sustainable development.
He held major roles including Managing Director, Gujarat State Forest Development Corporation, where he led large-scale plantation, value-addition of minor forest produce, and eco-tourism projects benefiting tribal communities. As Member Secretary, Gujarat Ecology Commission, he implemented coastal zone restoration, mangrove regeneration, and community-based conservation.
As Managing Director, Gujarat State Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation, he turned the organization profitable and supported livelihoods of over 20,000 artisans.
He led major greening initiatives such as Ekta Nagar restoration and supervised pioneering schemes including Green Aravali, Green Pavagadh, Urban Forests, and Miyawaki plantations, rejuvenating over one lakh hectares.
He joined the National Green Tribunal as Expert Member on 1st September 2025.
